As you may have noticed, I'm testing DIASPORA* as a blogging platform. Its been working reasonably well recently for me, with friends and family; even though the "Main" platform joindiaspora.com is not giving general invites, the code works and a bunch of distributed 'pods' have been set up.
You can make entries public, and I've tested a public address for this: http://diaspora.sceal.ie/u/amckinstry which looks ok, a bit plain for the moment, but I'll work on that later. The problem has been the atom feed is garbage. (It's putting the content into both the Subject line (as unadulterated MarkDown, no less), and into the content).
So, I've put the old blog back up for the moment. While I debug some Ruby on Rails, not a language i'm too familiar with ...
Note: only logged in DIASPORA users can leave notes on the Diaspora site, but go to the login page and registrations are open. At least until spammers notice...

So, those on Planet Debian may have noticed, I've moved my blog into git, which went fine. And 'git-cloned' it on the laptop for editing, which worked. And then 'git-checkout' on the server. Which didn't.
Bang. All the modified times were updated.
The solution, it appears, it "metadate". Which I'm implementing ASAP.
UPDATE:
The code for the plugin is not at the URL pointed to in sourceforge, but google says its here.

I've changed the domain name of my blog, etc. from scealnetworks.com to sceal.ie for various reasons: its shorter, I'm doing almost no networking work these days, and I've (personally) no intention of becoming an multi-national corporation in the near future.
Still got the old domain, though, and heres the question: does anyone know if its possbile to redirect
JabberXMPP IM from one domain to another (e.g. in a 301-style redirect?)And also, here's a new Technorati Profile.

After messing about with advogato and experimenting with blogging in MoinMoin, I've set up a new blog in pyblosxom. Much more straightforward to get basic blogging functionality, though I'll keep the MoinMoin wiki as its handly for day-to-day notes and usage.
Copied over the old content (not much of it), and I Think all the links work, but I'll be playing with CSS over the next few days to get layout Just Right. But for the moment, its good enough and stable enough to link to.

Playing with the blog ... Some CSS hacking due.
Firstly, down to real bugs. See DebianBug392987 to see the priority in Debian land, or LustreScratchPage to see where I'm at with Lustre.

After a long while of broken DSL, running around the country doing silly repairs, it looks like life is coming to a sense of order. Just saying that feels like risking too much of course.

I should have known better than to even hint that life was getting back to normal. We're back on weekends and overtime at work.
Personal life is also a bit hectic. So, Debian stuff is postponed in favour of sleep in most cases. I'll clear what bugs I can, but new code is at the bottom of the list.
On the good side, my daughter Caoimhe, started Walking! Its good to get home and see the kids. Spring is coming. I'd like to get out and see some of it.
